    You Are My Sunshine

A song which we all have sung when we were in kindergarten, and all along I have thought that it was a happy song, with a cheerful tune. Recently, while I was stoning, the lyrics of this song struck me, and I realised it is actually a very sad song.

    You are my sunshine
    My only sunshine
You make me happy, when skies are grey
You'll never know dear, how much I love you
Please don't take my sunshine away

The last 2 lines of the lyrics actually means that the person, who was your sunshine, is gone, and you have missed the chance to tell the person how much you have loved him/her.

How sad. I'll never sing this song like a happy song again.

    Celebrating 5 Years on 18 November 2011

For our 5th anniversary, I told baby that I do not wish to receive presents from him, because I am not a gifts person, instead, I would like to spend ALOT of time with him. So, he surprised me with a trip to Batam! It's a surprise because he didn't tell me his plans for the special day, until 830am on 17/11/2011. He called me to tell me to pack clothes for 3 days, as he's bringing me on a trip. It was very rush (I dislike last min plans), but since he had made the effort to plan a surprise for me, I tried not to be so frantic, as it affects my mood. He said he was very impressed with my reaction for the last min trip, because he knows I hate last min plans.

    Day 1 (17/11/2011)
We took the 11.30am ferry to Batam, and was picked by the resort staff, at the ferry terminal. Baby made a reservation at Harris Resort, where he had stayed with his family before.
When we reached the resort, we were served cold towel, and a welcome drink. After we checked in, the staff provided us with a map of the resort, and some surrounding places of interests, like go-kart, paintball, and fishing, which we have tried none. We checked in to the Cabanas Room, which baby later revealed that he had paid extra for this room. This is because the room is actually a small house by itself, separated from the main building, and I suppose the rooms are bigger as well.
There is a small walk-in-closet-wannabe, because it's too small to be a real walk-in closet, which is also the pantry.
    The toilet, with no doors.
A bathtub! Usually I will be very excited about a bathtub, because I like to take baths, but we forgot to bring the bubble bath, and the bathtub was rather dirty. So, we didn't take any baths in our room.
Our balcony, which has direct access to the beach. I guess this is actually a private beach, because there is a short wall, which prevents outsiders to access this part of the beach. However, I was still rather concern about the security of the place, and I kept imagining that we will get robbed, and killed, in our room! Haha. Watched too much CSI.
For lunch, we had a complimentary pizza at the restaurant, and afterwards, we explored the place, or rather, he brought me around to show me the different parts of the resort. Then we went back to the room to watch Avatar, on my laptop. As the movie was too damn long, and the laptop battery was flat, we took a break from the movie, and went for dinner at a Korean Restaurant, in the resort.

The Korean restaurant must have been rather authentic, as I noticed many Koreans having their dinner in the restaurant. But, it could have been that they have no choice but to eat there, since they are staying in the resort. Anyway, the food was satisfactory and cheap.
We were served many free small dishes before the meal, and I must admit that if I have finished all the side dishes by myself, I would have been too full for the main course.

Top left: Steamed Corn, Ikan Bilis look-alike, Preserved Cucumber, and Kimchi
Bottom left: Stir-fried Fishcake, Beancurd, and Stir-fried Spring Onion (the most delicious side dish)
We ordered a spicy seafood steamboat, and it was huge!! It says it's for 2-4 people, so I guess this explains the size. There were crabs, sotong, prawns, enoki mushroom, vegetables, tofu, and my favourite radish in the steamboat.
We managed to finish most of it.
Later, we found a cat loitering near the swimming pool, and like what baby ALWAYS does on almost all our trips, we went to buy some milk to feed the cat. He kept wanting to visit the cat during out trip until I was jealous of the cat! He even used a different tone when he's talking to the cat! Pissed off.
After feeding the cat, we went back to our room to finish the remaining of Avatar, and went to sleep.

Day 2 (18/11/2011): The BIG Day
We had complimentary breakfast at the resort, and took the 10am bus to Nagoya Hill Shopping Centre. The resort provides the most inconvenient timings for the pick-up time, if you leave at 10am, you have to take the 1pm bus back to the resort, if you leave at 1.30pm, you have to take the 4.30pm bus back to the resort. So, baby decided to disregard the timings of the return bus trip, and said we could cab back instead.
We spent sometime walking at the shopping centre, and we decided to go for a Spa, which is the reason why many people come to Batam. We booked a Spa package at Isabella Spa, at 4pm, so that we can go for lunch, and walk around until we have digested our lunch. Haha.

We had lunch at one of the local eating places, which serves Indonesian food. We ordered 3 dishes, and it only cost us S$10+!
Dish 1: Crispy Chicken (tastes like 盐酥鸡)
Dish 2: Soup with vegetable and duck
    Dish 3: Sambal Kangkong
After lunch we bought kueh lapis from the shopping mall, which provides free delivery to our hotel. She hesitated and called to check with her boss, when we told her we stayed at Harris, as it was very far from the shopping mall.

Then we went to buy dinner from the Hypermart, as we had no money left after buying the spa package, and kueh lapis. Haha. We bought instant noodles, and a packet of instant corn soup.

We went for the 3 hour spa, which included massage, body scrub, body mask, ear candling, and a milk bath in jacuzzi. For 2 persons, we paid about S$140. The massage and all were great, with the exception of the body mask. The body mask was cold, and it was applied in an air-con room. What's worse is, they left us lying there, waiting for the mask to dry, in the cold!!! I was literally shaking from the cold. Haha. After the spa, free transportation was provided for us, back to our hotel, hence, saving us the cab $$.

Our anniversary dinner, which I enjoyed alot, except for the cooking process because baby kept watching the tv, and I had to do everything! And in the midst of him watching tv, while I was boiling water and all, he remembered to take the milk out from the fridge, so that he can feed the cats later.... JEALOUS.
That basically marks the end of our big day.

    Day 3 (19/11/2011)
We had complimentary breakfast in the resort again, which baby almost couldn't wake up for, and took the 1.30pm ferry back to Singapore. When we reached Singapore, at about 3+pm, we went for lunch at White Dog Cafe. It was supposed to be MY treat because he had paid for all the expenses during out trip, but he paid instead. So nice of him.. add 50 points.

Pictures of our lunch... Mango freeze, which tastes like the mango pudding I used to have when I was young. Black Pepper Dory
    Double Cheese Burger
    A Happy Man.
After lunch, we slacked at Starbucks until 7.45pm, so that we can take a cab home, without surcharge. Haha.

To Baby: Thanks for the wonderful trip. Although nothing much was planned, I got to rest and relax, and spend many hours of quality time with you. Exactly what I have wished for. Thanks for all the laughter, tears, and TLC for the past 5 years. I am really thankful to have you by my side, during the good and bad times, in these 5 years. I hope we'll have many more of the same 5 years together in the future. I LOVE YOU!

    I've Graduated!

I have officially graduated from my Entry Level Buddhism Class, and we attended the 结业典礼 today. I guess it's called 结业典礼, instead of 毕业典礼, because in you'll forever be learning Buddhism, unless you're Buddha himself. So you'll never be able to graduate from learning Buddhism.

    My certificate.
This is how the 大殿, where we gather every Sunday morning, before our lesson starts, looks like. If you can see, our 大师父 is the very skinny person sitting near the screen. I heard from my mum that she's already very old, and weak. And I remember when we had the 义工分享会 sometime back, she thanked those volunteers for the Mid-Autumn Festival, until she 哽咽, because the volunteers had to stand in the mud, while giving out the food, and she was very touched by our efforts.
There were a few performances, and my mum, and aunties, took part in the dancing performance. Here's mummy helping her friend with their fake long fingernails.
The one smiling at the camera is one of my aunties (四姑姑).
There are no pictures of my mum dancing on the stage, because I took a video of the entire performance. Here's the group with their teacher. My mum studies in the class which learns the 经典. No idea what is that, but they do not have to take exams at the end of the year, and they don't get a certificate.
    My aunties, and my mum.
The dancing group with 浩翊师父, who is my teacher.
结业典礼开始时,大师父和我们分享了几个故事。首先,她问我们有没有修行,因为,修要配合行。如果我们只有修,却没有行,那我们上课也白上了。而且,我们每个人都要有一颗感恩的心。感恩 is the root to happiness.

This is a simple story, which is probably taken from the internet, or somewhere, but it really touched my heart. I almost teared when she shared this story with us. The moral of the story is, there is someone in everyone's life, whom we need to be grateful for. No matter the favor is a big one, or a small and simple one, like the candle story, we need to show gratitude to them.

大师父 shared a total of 4 stories, but this one left the deepest impression in me. I must learn to have 感恩的心, no matter the event is a good or bad one, or the person has treated me well or bad, they have helped to make who we are today. The good events, and nice people, we need to be grateful to them. The bad events, nasty people, has helped to make us stronger, or learn a new lesson. Hence, for this reason, we need to be grateful to them as well. If we have became angry, upset, beaten, then we will be miserable people. If we can learn to have a 感恩的心, then we will be happy people!

It's hard to learn to have a 感恩的心 for the nasty people, like my boss, but I shall try and see if I can attain it, because I hope to be a happier person! But it will be VERY hard, because I am a very rash and short-tempered person.
