Early Mid-Autumn Festival
What is this strange glowing object????
It's a mushroom lantern, made by my mum!!!! Haha. It's so cute.
It's made with balloons, by the way. She said the light she has inserted into the balloon can remain lit for 3 days. Impressive!
Apologies for the messy table in the background.

Sick
In case you're wondering, how could I have posted the long National Day post on a Tuesday afternoon. It's because I am sick, and so, I am on MC! I haven been so sick, and for so long (my cough has been around for about a month), for a very long time! I guess working in SIA is more stressful for me, then working in KPMG.
Anyway, I am impressed by myself, for being able to put up such a long post, since the photo takes a long time to be uploaded, after I have taken the drowsy cough syrup!
National Day Parade 2011
Baby and I went to watch the National Day Parade, thanks to Mummy, who gave us the tickets. The reason why she got the tickets is because she is a RC member, and every year, each RC will be given 2 pairs of tickets for them to ballot. However, it's still a fair game, because if you got the tickets this year, then you don't get to ballot in the next year, in order to give others a chance to get the tickets.
The weather was very hot, but for a while, like maybe 5mins, there were some rain clouds hanging above our heads. I was worried that it may rain, but it didn't! Lucky us.
The stage is set up at a very strategic position, as we can see the MBS and the CBD area in front if us, and the Helix and Singapore Flyer are on our left side. We reached at 4 plus, because the gates opens at 4pm, and as kiasu Singaporeans, we wanted to get good seats. National Day, so, all the more must practise Singaporean spirit.
At the very very very far right, we can see the Merlion, and many people gathering there. I doubt they can watch the parade from there, unless they brought binoculars.
Inside our National Day Fun Pack, we got our own Merlion butter cookies.
Random photo of the crowd, while waiting for the parade to start.
Soon the parade started, with some band playing.
Followed by the hosts, Gurmit Singh, Belinda Lee, Denise Keller and Suhaimi Yusof. We were very lucky to be in Gurmit Singh's team, because I thought that he was the most HIGH host, that evening.
The picture below is actually meant to capture the volunteers that were helping that day. I feel that they have really put in alot of effort, because they had to dance to the music, choreographed dance of course. The weather was really hot, and it was awkward to be dancing with many people watching you up close! But they maintained their smiles and performed their duties to their best.
Practising the flag waving, so that it will be perfect when the President and the Members of Parliament arrives.
A sea of red and white to represent the colours of the Singapore flag. Feeling the patriotic atmosphere in the air.
1st up, is the traditional parachute performance.
You can see "The Red Lions" on their parachutes, because they are called The Red Lions.
(Hint: Click on photo to enlarge, if you can't see the words clearly.)
Trying to get a good photo of them landing...
Next, it's the performance from our Civil Defense team, pretending that Singapore is under attack, and they are trying to save our lives.
A helicopter is removing some potential threat from the water.
A Chinook flying really close to the water! So cool.
Some more photos of the performance by Civil Defense.
Baby said that this is an Apache helicopter.
I saw a connected platform floating in from our left, under the Helix bridge, to the right side of the stage.
Taking a closer look, there are cannons on the platform.
My favourite part of the parade! The marching parade.. ceremony.. contingent.. whatever it's called. They marched in from all sides of the stage.
Tadah!! Everyone gathering on the stage. My favourite is the 阿兵哥 in Number 4, because I think a man wearing the Number 4 uniform looks very smart, brave, and 可以依赖 (sense of security).
See! The "Cannon Team" setting up on the right side of the stage, preparing to fire when Mr. President arrives.
And he's here!! It's going to be his last time at the National Day Parade, as the President of Singapore.
Chinook and 2 Apaches flying past, with the Singapore Flag, as we sing the National Anthem.
Fighter planes. They were flying too fast, and since my camera takes a long time to reload, I only took 2 blurry photos of them.
非常整齐.
Mr President inspecting the parade for the last time. I guess he must be too old to walk, which is why he rode in the car instead. He's 87 this year!! My colleague was saying the other day, during lunch, that if her Grandma is 87, she would be senile already, which is why she is very impressed by our President. My colleague is a Non-Singaporean, but she is always singing praises of Singapore.
The logo of the NTUC building showing the Singapore flag!! In case you don't know, on a normal day, the logo changes colour constantly.
(Hint: Click to enlarge, so that you can see the moon and stars.)
I like this part too! There is a pattern to how the guns are fired. From left to right, back to the left, then right again.
After this segment was over, the people in the parade actually marched towards us, all singing to the song "We are Singapore" while marching. How cool is that!? "We are Singapore, Singaporeans..."
The next segment shows the different ethnic races in Singapore. The 包子 in the 蒸笼 represents Chinese. Before this, there was a part which represented the Malays, but I didn't take any photos of that because I initially thought they were just doing some sort of a dance. ☹
This represents the Ang Mohs..
This represents the Indian. Baby keeps saying that the elephant is very nice, because it looks real.
Some cute "Super Indian Ink" dancing. I don't know why they relate Indians to ink. Did they invent them? *shrugs*
I like this part too! When they are trying to portray the fishing village, which Singapore used to be, they actually had the volunteers blew bubbles! We had bottles of bubbles in our bags too, but we didn't join in, because finding a small bottle of bubble from the big Fun Pack bag, in the dark, is quite a tough job.
Some pretty lighted clams on the side of the stage, in the river.
Once again, I want to give credits to the volunteers. This time, they are diligently blowing bubbles. Without them, I believe the National Day Parade would have been a very different experience. Less fun.
Another part which I liked as well. I liked it not because it has a replica of the MRT, but....
Because there were many cute children dancing!! They were really adorable!
Since it was dark, and I couldn't really get good photos, I gave up trying to take photos of the performance. I realise my camera's nightshots are not fantastic! All the photos I took, after the sky turned dark, were horribly unclear.
Fast forward to the last part... Fireworks!
Times like this, I wish I have a professional camera, so that I can take brilliant photos of the fireworks, and the performance. But of course, I wouldn't get it, because I only use my camera once in a blue moon.
However sucky the photos turned out, at least I know that I enjoyed myself very much, and loved the 4mins of fireworks.
Ended our day at Cafe Cartel, because they have 50% off snacks and ice cream after 9pm. Haha. Singaporean spirit till the very end.
