    Good Skin and Looking Young

*This post is not about how to get good skin, or how to look young.*

I have received many praises for my good skin, but I am actually not very happy when I receive them, because I don't deserve the praises.

Seriously, is there something wrong with your eyes? My skin is super dry, which has resulted in my skin aging at an alarming rate. My pores are humongous, and I bet I have the biggest eye bags, darkest dark eye circles, and most serious case of fine lines, for my age. So bad that I don't dare to wear contacts, even though I have 2 boxes of daily disposable contacts, that are about to expire soon.

So whenever people praise that my skin is good, and say that I look like I have powder on my face, I don't know how to reply them.

Another comment I usually get, is that, I look much younger than how old I really am. Recently, my mum's friend even guessed that I am 13!! That, to me, is not a compliment as well. In fact, I am very troubled by it. Imagine when I have my own children in the future, people will think that a 13 year old girl, has kids! It's going to be really awkward. I don't want to look old, but I hope to look like my age.

    That's all for complaining.

I'm now reading "The 5 Love Languages", while waiting for my mum, at the Buddhist Temple.

Just finished the chapter on "Receiving Gifts", which is one of the love languages. I thought that I should blog about a recent gift he got for me, which was a very meaningful one.

A recent event made me feel like my family was bound to fall apart, and lose faith in the possibility of having a good husband, or building my own happy family.

On that day, after a devastating and exasperating call with someone, I met up with him. The first thing he did, was to give me a hug and listened to whatever I had to say. I knew he would be at a loss for words, as there was nothing he could have said, to make me feel better. I was also determined not to let that incident spoil our dating day, which we only have twice a week. So, despite being ultra-upset, I suggested we proceed with our plan to go to orchard.

We spent the remaining time walking around and not mentioning about the upsetting topic again. Nonetheless, whenever there is a quiet moment, I can't help but let the topic surface in my mind. Tired of walking, we sat down at one of the cafes, to rest our tired feet, and have a drink.

After a while, he went to the toilet and came back with this cookie, which said "You're my everything". I was really touched by this small little move, as it came when I really needed some cheering up, and assurance from him.

I'm writing it here because I don't ever want to forget this incident, and how much I'm loved by him. 

I am truly a lucky girl.

Birthday Trip to Phuket (3 Sep to 7 Sep)

To celebrate my 24th birthday, baby and I decided to return to Phuket again. Initially, we planned to go to Bali, but our search for a hotel, which has a bathtub, at a good location, and within our budget, failed. Actually, I was searching for a villa, instead of a hotel, because villas seem to be a more popular choice, in Bali.

Since we were unable to find a suitable place to stay in, which is under S$100 per night, we concluded that Phuket is a much cheaper place to go to. Here's a breakdown of our flight and accommodation costs:

Flight by Silkair: S$489.20 (for 2 tickets)
Hotel Stay for 4 nights: S$291.34
    Total: S$789.54
    Per person: S$394.77

We were very lucky to have bought the tickets during SilkAir internet sale promotion, because, unfortunately, my birthday falls on a school holiday week, so tickets out of Singapore are never cheap during that period. I have checked the prices for the low cost carriers (LCC), and only Jetstar was cheaper by about S$20 (or was it S$40?), but if you want to order the in-flight meals, and check-in your luggage, you have to pay extra, so when you add all the additional costs up, SilkAir maybe cheaper after all. Some more we got free poker cards! Haha!! Kiasu Singaporeans. Also, the hotel we stayed in, Baumanburi, is a very cheap hotel, we paid S$70 odd per night, for the best room! As usual, we booked our hotel stay from Agoda.

I did the check-in online, one day prior to our departure, and we went to collect our boarding pass very early, because we wanted to shop around in the transit area. Our flight was at 4+pm, but we reached the airport at 12pm.

    Day 1
Some pictures taken at the airport.
    Finally, it was boarding time.
Maybe you'll think I am very suaku, but I was shocked that SilkAir doesn't have a personal in-flight entertainment system for the passengers!! I thought only LCC doesn't have. I was so sad, because we could only watch Mr. Bean from a very small screen that drops from ceiling, and there was no sound. Sigh.
Can you see the airplane's reflection?
We departed on time, from the Singapore Airport, but we had to queue for our turn to take off. Check out the other planes queuing behind us.
Finally, we took off, into a rather hazy sky.
    Beautiful~
Our in-flight meal. I love travelling, because I get to fly on the airplanes, eat in-flight meals, and stay in hotels.
The chicken was as dry as my chapped lips, and the fries tastes obviously fried hours ago, and were very soggy. Only the beans were nice, and the orange juice had pulp in it!
We landed in Phuket airport at about 5.30pm, Thailand time, which is one hour behind us. It was raining very heavily when we were in the air, and about to land. When we landed, the rain was relatively small, and surprisingly, after we passed the customs (we queued for at least 30 mins to get our passport stamped) and collected our luggage, there was almost no rain!

We got onto a cab, and the driver charged us 600bhat (S$25) for the journey to our hotel, which was at Patong beach. It's rather expensive, but the trip to Patong is actually about 1hr, because the road network is not very established in Phuket. So we reached out hotel at about 7.30pm. after we checked in, we went to a nearby place for dinner, but I forgot to bring my camera along, so here are the photos of my hotel room.
Cheeky hotel. Can see the bathtub and toilet from the room.
    Separate shower area.
After dinner, we went back to the hotel to have an early night's rest.

    Day 2
The next morning, we went for the free breakfast at the hotel restaurant, and headed straight to Jungceylon, a shopping mall, which is about 15 mins walk away from our hotel, to stock up some snacks and water. Of cos, we did some shopping in the mall, since we were already there.

Got some Hello Kitty gummies from one of the bookshops.
After stocking up, we bought food back from some roadside stalls, which are actually stalls that are on motorcycle. The stall owner can cook and serve on the motorbike.
Some spicy chicken with glutinous rice. We didn't finish the glutinous rice, but the chicken was DELICIOUS! It's so damn spicy and I LURVE it.
Up close. Can you see the red chilli padi? Hehe. Slurps.
Also bought a chicken leg. The whole meal cost 100bhat (S$4), and we were damn full after that. I think if you wanna by a chicken leg (drumstick plus the thigh), in Singapore, will be S$3+ already.
After lunch, we went for foot massage, at the same massage place we went to, the previous time we went to Phuket. It's a short walk from our hotel, and the cheapest along that stretch of road. It's clean also, not those sleazy ones.
After massage, we went for walk along patong beach, to shop in the shops along the beach. Haha. on our way there, we passed by Marriot Hotel, and got approached by one of the hotel staff. He offered us either a free island hopping tour, or free tickets to the Fantasea show. In return, we need to go for a 90 mins talk at the hotel the next day. We signed up immediately for the talk, and chose the tickets to the show, since we have never watched it before, and the last time we went for the island hopping tour, I got severe motion sickness.

We had dinner, from one of the roadside stalls again, and this time, we actually ate at the road side.
Dorky face. Haha. Happy with our spicy glass noodle soup.
We ended up at Bangla Road, which is the place where nightlight is most vibrant. They have Tiger Show, Ping Pong Show, etc. In our previous trip, I asked baby if he wanted to visit one of those shops, and I can go in with him, but he didn't want to. Haha. So this time, I didn't ask him.
Then, we walked back to our hotel, and along the way, baby bought a corn for supper.
Bought this from one of the shops along Patong beach! It's Hello Kitty magnets. You may think that it's a useless thing, but my office has whiteboard okay? I will use it! Haha.

    Day 3
We went for the talk at Marriot in the morning, and since we had to go for the show at night, we didn't go to other beaches, which we had intended to go initially.

Since the weather was so hot, baby decided to have some Grass Jelly.
We also bought a bowl of spicy instant noodles from a road side stall. This one is the worst we had during out trip.

Since the previous bowl was disappointing and not filling, we bought another bowl of glass noodle soup, back to our hotel. This one has the best soup, and had the most ingredients. There were meat balls, beansprouts, kang kong and radish. Slurps.
In the evening, the Fantasea minibus came to our hotel to fetch us to the show venue. Marriot was kind enough to provide us the tickets for the buffet dinner and the show.
There was a koi pond, and of course, there were staff standing near the ponds, holding baskets containing fish food, to sell to the tourists. We didn't buy any. Haha.
The whole place was like a mini park, with many shops selling souvenirs, mainly related to elephants.
Cute elephant decoration, on top of one of the shops.
Ang mohs really know how to pose for photos.
Live elephants!! I know it's cruel and all, for people to use them for commercial purposes, but with deforestation and human intruding their habitat, I guess it'll be hard for them to survive out in the wild too. Just hope that they are well treated and not abused by the trainers/owners. And of cos, I hope they actually like giving rides to the tourists.
A lifelike statue of an elephant, outside the hall where we will watch the show later.
    Giving rides to tourists.
Before the show, it's buffet time. Since we are tourists, we must take photos everywhere.
There's a lady standing outside the restaurant for the seafood buffet. I think you can top up some money to enjoy the seafood buffet. Since we dun eat much, no point paying the additional, for seafood buffet.
The theater at night. Isn't it beautiful? The lights will change colours constantly.
More photos taken within the premise of the park. As no photography was allowed in the theater, we had to surrender our cameras at the counters, for safekeeping. So sad we were not allowed to take photos of the show.
Baby kept asking me to choose a gift for myself, because he did not buy a present for me. As there were many useless things in the souvenir shops, I got the most useful thing... a hand fan.
Some information about the show, there was no plot. Even if there was, I don't know what it was, so in that aspect, it has failed. However, there were many elephants performing, and other animals as well, such as chicken, goats, doves and a tiger. The elephants was most involved in the show, performing simple tricks, such as, sitting, kneeling, and standing. The rest of the animals sort of just ran, or flew, across the stage.

I have to say that the actors were very professional, because even though the main focus was at the centre of the stage, there were some actors at the side, performing some small roles as well, and not for one second, did they look bored. I remember these 2 actors were at the side, supposedly acting as guards, and they looked serious, tensed and fierce, at all times, like they are really in a war.

Another highlight of the show was there were 10 acrobats hanging from the ceiling, right above us. Very interesting and entertaining.

    Day 4 - My 24th Birthday
After the show, we took the bus back to our hotel. By the time we reached the hotel, it was already past 12am, so it was my birthday! We watched some pirated dvds we bought in one of the stalls along the beach. and while lying on the bed, I stuck my hand under the pillow, and found this...
Can't see it very clearly, because my camera sucks, but it's a silver pendant, with sapphire, and a small small diamond. I was really touched by this move, because it's the 1st piece of authentic jewelery he bought for me. I know that diamond would probably be a little out of his budget, so he bought sapphire, which is my birthstone. And he had brought this necklace in his waist pouch, all the time, so that I wouldn't find out. Also, I honestly and seriously did not want him to get me a gift, because he had already spent quite some money on this trip, which we wouldn't have gone on, if not for my birthday. So, I was really touched.
Next morning, we went to my favourite beach. Kata beach. We rented a motorbike, which baby rode, to get there. Nice eh?
Lunch at one of the restaurants on the beach.
We went back to the room to bathe, after spending the day at the beach, before dinner. Baby told me we'll be eating at a nearby restaurant, or the roadside stall, whichever I prefer, and we slacked in the room for quite sometime.

We were so tired after a day at the beach we didn't want to leave the hotel for dinner. But he suddenly said we better get going, before we decide to skip dinner. And, when we reached the hotel lobby, he suddenly walked towards a guy, waiting beside a minibus, and tadah!!! A 3rd surprise for my birthday (the first one is the bouquet of flowers and the cake)!
The minivan brought us to this place, with a melting ice sculpture.
It's so called the most romantic restaurant in Phuket, and baby had made a reservation for my birthday. I am really surprised he did so much for my birthday, even though I admit I hinted him on several occasions. Our sunset view was blocked by the tree.
    The beach on my left.
Candlelight dinner. The place is really very atas, because they had reading lights for you to read your menu, as the place is quite dark. Also, the staff were very attentive and helpful.
His very not delicious Irish Coffee.
My equally not delicious Cafe Mocha.
    Coconut?
Nope! It's soup in a coconut shell! Very delicious if you like coconut. I hate it.
Some fried fish paste. Not too bad.
No more pictures of the rest of the dishes, of our dinner.

We asked for the bill and waited a good 10 mins. Baby and I stood up to explore the restaurant, and the staff were very anxious, because they thought we were getting impatient. Haha. Soon, they emerged with this desert, and sparklers, singing the birthday song for ME!!! OMG! So pai seh. Haha.
This is where we dined at. Baan Rim Pa. They provide free transportation, from and back to your hotel, and the service is great! The food is not fantastic though.
After dinner, it was back to our hotel, and packing for our departure the next day. Marriot also offered us a free taxi to the airport, for attending the 90 mins talk.

That marks the end of our Phuket trip, and the start of my final year, before I turn 25. Gosh, I am getting old.

To baby: Thank you for everything! Thanks for all the surprises, all the laughter and fun, not only for this trip, but for the past soon-to-be 5 years, of our relationship. Thanks for tolerating my flaws, especially my extremely short temper. You had many chances to strangle me to death over this soon-to-be 5 years, and I am shocked you haven't done that yet. Haha. Thanks for keeping me alive, and loving me unconditionally. I love you too!
