Bangkok 19 Oct to 22 Oct

It all started when Reebonz had a promotion for the Club Room in Banyan Tree Bangkok. I planned to go there with baby, and asked my family if they wanted to join us. We made a reservation for 3 rooms, bought air tickets, and flew there for a short trip.

    Day 1, 19 Oct, Wednesday
We checked in our luggage and went shopping at the transit area. Then, my dad decided to buy a Gucci bag for my mum! The exact cost of this small bag is S$1,448, and my airport pass did get us any discount. Good to have a rich husband huh?
After slacking for 1+ hours at the airport, we finally get to board the plane. By the way, we flew on Thai Air, instead of SQ, because the difference in the cost of the air tickets, was S$200+. We took the 1st plane and I had to wake up at 4am to bathe and prepare to leave for the airport. So we were all very tired on the plane. Nonetheless, I managed to take some photos before we went to sleep, and also to wake up for the meals.
Our meals. Baby chose chicken rice and I ordered seafood noodles, so that we get to try both.
My delicious seafood noodles, which had plenty of prawns, and fish. The bee hoon is the wet type, which I really like!
His chicken rice, which was too salty and dry. He totally regretted ordering the chicken rice.
When we reached the airport, my dad hired a mini bus to bring us to the hotel, which was located at the city area of Bangkok. After we all knew of the flood in Northern Thailand, and that the flood may reach Bangkok, I was really glad to know that our hotel was located in the very city area, where most of the foreign embassies are located. I thought that they would put in the most effort to keep this area dry, and true enough, we were not affected by the flood at all.

When we reached the hotel, we were given bracelet looking thing, which was made of flowers. I was playing with it for the longest time, until I found a giant red ant on one of the flowers. Luckily I wasn't bitten by it.
As we were staying at the club room, we were brought to the club lounge, on the 19th floor, where we were served welcome drinks, for check-in.
As we were allowed early check-in, at 10am, we managed to get to our room immediately after checking in. Here are some pictures of the our wonderful room.

The view of the room once we got entered.
    The king size bed.
We get to enjoy a wonderful view while soaking in the tub. On the small table on the right, there were bath salt, bath oil, and bath foam, which I used generously during our stay. They even replenish the bath salt when we finish using it! There was also a body lotion, which I didn't use.
The wardrobe, with a safe, bathrobes, iron, ironing board, and bedroom slippers, was in the bathroom. It was strange because usually, you wouldn't want your clothes to be damp, so you wouldn't put your wardrobe in the bathroom.
The welcome fruit basket, which they replenish everyday.
A welcome gift! It's a Banyan Tree body lotion, which is sold in their spa shop. I think they want us to use it, and buy from the shop, if we think that it's good.
Coffee maker, kettle, and an ice bucket full of ice.
We went to the Platinum Mall to shop after checking in. This is our loot after approximately half a day of shopping. After shopping, we had dinner at a roadside stall, which served a very special fish. The fish as plenty of salt rubbed on the skin, but the flesh wasn't salty at all! We also ate many other Thai food, which my dad ordered.
After dinner, we took cabs back to the hotel. We needed 2 cabs because there were 6 of us. When we reached the hotel lobby, there was a burning torch at the roundabout, where the cab driver dropped us off. Pretty to see, but bad for the environment.
Surprise surprise! When we went back to our room, someone had helped us laid out the bathrobes on our bed...
... bedroom slippers at the side of the bed...
... a small turtle paperweight gift, and an orchid on our bed. There was also a pamphlet which told us that we will be donating US$2 per night of our stay, to some conservation fund.
My clothes-only purchase from spending half a day at the Platinum Mall. 3 dresses, 3 tops, 2 skirts and 1 pair of shorts. Every thing here costs less than THB250 (approx. S$10), all the tops and skirts were THB200 (approx. S$8). The quality of the clothes I have bought, were good, not those cheap and sheer type of materials.
Including baby's purchase, and some gifts we bought for friends. Baby's purchase, for himself, was only one pair of jeans!
Gifts from Naraya. The bag is for baby's mum, plenty of tissue packet holder as gifts. The red checkered one was for myself.

    Day 2, 20 Oct, Thursday
Next morning after breakfast, we went to take a walk at the swimming pool, which we could see from our room. The pool is really pretty, with nicely trimmed plants, and a nice view.
After that, daddy brought us to the Chinatown in Bangkok. There weren't many things we could buy there, but there were many interesting sights, like this freshly squeezed pomegranate juice.
After a whole day of shopping at Chinatown, I only got 1 bag, 12 pairs of socks to share with my sister, and 5 belts, one of which was for my mum. Baby got 12 pairs of socks for himself, because they only sell in the dozens.

After that, daddy brought us to Baiyoke Hotel, which is the tallest building in the city, for buffet dinner. The restaurant was located at the highest level of the hotel, where my daddy said we'll see a nice night view. The spread and the food was only okay, but my dad was very excited about bringing us there, so I really appreciated it.

The view from the restaurant, when they day is still bright, and...
... the night view. It started to rain while we were eating, but it stopped when we were done with dinner.
Just to introduce my family, from left to right. My daddy, my sisters, Peck Leng and Wei Shan, me, Baby, and my mummy. After dinner, we went for foot massage at a place nearby, where my dad fell asleep and snored LOUDLY. The massage staff were laughing about it.

    Day 3, 21 Oct, Friday
Early in the morning, after breakfast, we headed to the 四面佛 temple to pray. In the cab, I noticed a few interesting signs. No bull (wondering who will bring a bull into a cab), no knives (like the cab driver will know if I hide it in my bag), and the most interesting one.
    No sex.
Surprisingly, the 四面佛 temple is located outdoors, right beside a construction site. However, the floor was not dusty, despite being right next to the site.
After that, we went to a new wing of Platinum Mall for more shopping. I think Platinum Mall, both old and new wings, are the best places to shop at, because it's air-conditioned, and there were many many good bargains there. The clothes I got from there were in the range of THB200 (S$8) - THB300 (S$13). After that, we went to a new mall nearby, the Palladium Mall, but most of the shops were not opened yet, and the place was very much still under construction.

So, we proceeded to the Indra Mall, which my cousin had told me is a very good place to shop at. We got lost, walking around to find our way for more than 1 hour, before deciding to have lunch. My dad wanted to eat at A&W, because we can't find it in Singapore anymore. After lunch, we walked for another 1 hour, before arriving at Indra Mall. My conclusion, not worth it. For my next trip to BKK, I will only shop at the Platinum Mall.

We spent close to 2 hours at Indra Mall, which my sister thought was a good place to shop, because she found clothes that she likes. Despite it being a boring place to shop at, I managed to get 2 pairs of shoes. Baby, on the other hand, managed to get more things than me. 1 belt, and 3 ties.

I think my dad was sick of walking, after being lost for approximately 3 hours, so he hired 2 tuktuks to bring us to a Thai restaurant. It's my 1st time taking a tuktuk in Bangkok, which is different from the one I took in Phuket, during my KPMG departmental trip last year. The tuktuk in Phuket can sit 6 to 8 people comfortably, but the tuktuk in Bangkok can barely sit 3 persons. One tuktuk costs THB40 to the restaurant.
After dinner, we wanted to take a tuktuk out from the restaurant, which was located at quite an ulu place, and it quoted us THB100! My dad was so pissed that he decided to just leave the restaurant and flag a cab along the road. While waiting for the cab, we saw a train right in the middle of a busy road! The traffic police had to stop the traffic for the train to go pass. Not a sight I have seen in Singapore.
After we reached back at hotel, we went to a bar, located at the 51 floor of the hotel, for our complimentary drinks. My parents and my youngest sister, Wei Shan, decided not to go, because there was a dress code for the bar. Baby, my other sister, Peck Leng, and I went back to our room, where I changed into my new dress, and went to the bar.

Nice night view from 51st floor.
Baby ordered 2 awful drinks. One Sex on the Beach (alcoholic), and one Tropical Spritzer (non-alcoholic). Also, both drinks were feminine drinks. Haha. I ordered a mocktail with strawberries and lime, which was awesome!
A small garden-like area in the middle of the pub. It's really a nice place to chill~My purchase from the 2nd day of mass shopping. 2 dresses, 4 tops, 1 skirt, 1 cardigan, and one angry birds t-shirt. The 2 dresses, which were of good quality, costs THB200 each! It's a real steal. The 3 extremely cute casual tops at the bottom of were THB75 (S$150 for 2, after bargaining) and THB80, about S$3 each. The other angry birds t-shirt is baby's.
With his purchases. 1 polo tee, 3 ties, and a belt.

    Day 4, 22 Oct, Saturday
Last day in Bangkok, we went to Chatuchak. It was hot, crowded, and the shopkeepers there were mostly rude, perhaps due to the weather. After 3 days of bargaining, I also too tired to bargain with the shopkeepers, and as they were rude and fierce, I didn't want to buy too many things from there.

Interesting thing about Chatuchak, there was a lane full of animals on sale. There were puppies, kittens, squirrels, and chipmunks. It seems like the animals were well-treated, as I saw a lady gently trimming the nails of a puppy. I noticed that all the animals sold there are babies, which makes me wonder what will they do with those puppies and kittens, after they grow up, but they are not sold.

At Chatuchak, I bought 1 skirt, and 2 pairs of shorts. Baby bought 4 shirts. After which, we proceeded back to the hotel, to finish up the last bit of packing, have our complimentary high-tea and to check out.

Must do: Take photo with hotel logo before we leave.
Finally, we were on our flight back. This time they gave us a choice of rice with fish, or chicken. I ordered fish, and baby ordered chicken. I thought the chicken rice would be as bad as the one he had on our flight to BKK, but unexpectedly, it was even better than my fish.
That marks the end of our wonderful shopping trip in BKK.

    Banyan Tree Hotel Review
It lives up to the Banyan Tree brand name. The staff were polite, always helpful, attentive, and smiling. Also, they gave us a small gift every night of our stay in the hotel. 1st night was the body lotion, then bamboo coasters, and Jasmine scented incense for our last night.

The room was huge. They provide tealight candles, incense oil, and scented incense, and it's a new scent everyday. Fruits are replenished daily, so that we can enjoy the freshest fruits. Also, they make the beds every day and night, and put small gifts on our beds. And you get to choose which type of pillow your prefer to have, if you would like to!

The bathroom was splendid, with a good view from the bath tub, free stuff we can use for in-room spa experience, and a walk-in rain shower. They also provided toiletries for him and her, in 2 separate bags on the sink counter. It was also very spacious, and clean.

The pool was well maintained. There was a well-equipped gym, which we didn't utilise. There was also spa in the hotel, and if you'd prefer to have a spa in the comfort of your own room, they would also provide the service.

    Conclusion for BKK
Platinum Mall is the best place to shop at.
