Sunday, December 12, 2010 Australia (4.12.2010 - 10.12.2010) Just came back from a trip to Australia with my family 2 days ago. As my parents are members of this resort thingie, we have 1 week free, every 2 years, to stay in this resort in Gold Coast. They have been paying for the membership for at least a decade but this is our 1st time there. We took Emirates there and the tickets costs like S$1,200 per pax, which is like VERY expensive, because we had booked the tickets too late and there were no other cheaper air tickets left. My father had to pay for all 5 of us, so he paid S$6,000. I am starting to think that my dad is very rich. Haha. Day 1 (5.12.2010, Sunday, since we reached at 4 am) The plane to Australia left Singapore at around 4 in the afternoon, and I was unable to sleep through out the 7hrs flight, even though i took the motion sickness medication. Luckily the in-flight entertainment and the food were not bad. Haha. ![]() We reached Brisbane International Airport at 3am (1am in Singapore). As we had rented a car before we went there, we went to this counter at the airport to get our car, plus GPS, insurance and petrol. The whole rental amounted to AUD800+, which was more than S$1,000. Maybe it was because we got a bigger car so that our luggage can fit into the boot. After we got the car, my father drove to our resort, but along the way, we got lost because the freaking GPS was not updated and had instructed us to go straight on road where we couldn't. We were all so pissed at 3am in the morning. The sun rises very early in Australia, and when we reached the resort at 5am (please note that all the time stated are Brisbane time, unless otherwise stated), the sky was already as bright as 8am in Singapore. Our resort! We stayed on the 13th floor. This is our ride in Australia. It was quite spacious for the 5 of us. Our resort interior. There were 2 rooms, which i did not take pictures of, and a jacuzzi in th master bed room. There was also a kitchen, which we did use quite often, and a huge balcony, with splendid view. As you can see, the beach is very near to our resort. As we were very tired on the 1st day, we slept in the hotel until 11am and headed out to do some light shopping. The supermarkets in Australia were selling tons of Christmas decorations and food. So festive. My mum and sister god hungry so they bought sushi and look at the soy sauce they had given us! So cute, unlike Singapore's. We realise there are quite a few Japanese restaurants in Australia. We went back to this restaurant near our resort for dinner. I wouldn't say the food was fantastic but the service was great! Day 2 (6.12.2010, Monday) We went to the beach after breakfast. It was summer in Gold Coast but the weather was so cold and it was raining all day! The weather every day was like around 23 degrees, except for the last 2 days of our stay, when it did not rain at all. As you can see, the sky is dark and in fact, it was drizzling! The water was damn cold too! ![]() After spending some time on the beach, we went shopping again. We had planned to go to Sea World on this day, but the weather was not in our favour. So, we spent the rest of our day there, walking around. Well, at least my day was not totally wasted because i had Krispy Kreme for the very 1st time! Haha. I know I may be sua ku but the original glazed was just too damn delicious! Yums. We saw interesting mixers in one of the departmental stores. It's something like Robinson or John Little. Also, there was a Santa Claus taking photos with children in the shopping mall, something you don't get to see in Singapore, but after taking the photo, you will have to purchase it from the photographer. Day 3 (7.12.2010, Tuesday) We went to Lamington National Park, even though it was drizzling, because we thought it would be something like Bukit Timah, so since we had bought ponchos, which was AUD4.50 each, we decided it will be okay to go ahead with our plans for the day. However, it was NOTHING like Bukit Timah. The drive to the National Park was around 2 hours because we had to go up a mountain! On some parts of the road, there was only ONE lane, when it is actually a 2 way lane, and the left side of the road was a steep slope down the mountain, while the right hand side of the road was a slope upwards, meaning we will have nowhere to go if another car come in the other direction. My father was damn nervous when driving along the road. The view along the way, on our way up was beautiful. When we have finally reached the park, we realised the tracks were muddy tracks and about 15 mins after we started walking, it started to rain heavily. I was also very scared that we may see some dangerous animals, like snakes, or wolves. Haha. My sister almost got bitten by a leech. Luckily my mother got it off in time, before it had sunk its fangs onto my sister's toe. The vegetation there is nothing like Singapore's. It was really beautiful. If only we could have stayed longer. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Day 4 (8.12.2010, Wednesday) We had breakfast opposite our resort. Their breakfast was DELICIOUS! but my father did not want to go back the next day. So sad. After breakfast, we went to Movie World. The entry tickets costs AUD75 each, and my father paid for them again. Haha. So pai seh to let him pay all the time, but i don't really have enough money also. Although we are all not fans of roller coasters, we had to force ourselves to go on some less exciting rides, so that the ticket price will be worthwhile. So we went for this Scooby Doo ride, which was for kids, but was already considered rather exciting for us, and some 4D shows and simulator rides. ![]() There was also performances along the Main Street, at specific time slots. We watched the Batman one, which started once we reached there. The weather was hot, in fact it was like 32 degrees! It was the 1st time I perspired in Gold Coast. ![]() ![]() This ride was very interesting. I think it is some Superman Ride, because, look at who is pushing the roller coaster? IT'S SUPERMAN! ![]() We went back to the main street to wait for the last parade to start. Then my father suddenly said to me, "What is that on your hair?". It was snow! Haha. It was actually foam falling from somewhere. Don't think the pictures shows the "snow"very clearly. ![]() Then the parade started. All the looney tunes characters started dancing to the music and some other movie characters, like batman, joker and some characters, which were later identified by Baby as the Justice League, were also featured in the parade. ![]() ![]() By the end of the parade, which was barely 5pm, most of the rides were closed, so we left. The shops and attractions in Australia closes very early. Most of them closes at 530pm, some even earlier. So most nights, there was nothing for us to do. Anyways, I saw this really cute sign at the carpark. Haha. Bugs Bunny crossing, This sign usually shows a pair of legs, to indicate to drivers that there will be pedestrians crossing along the road. Day 5 (9.10.2010, Thursday) No pictures from the last day, because I was too busy shopping! We went to Harbour Town Outlet shopping, where most of the shops are outlet stores or all the clearance stock are being sold there. I bought tons of things for Baby and his family, some clothes for myself, and some souvenirs for friends. We left the shopping place at about 4pm and went back to the resort to have dinner and pack our luggage for our flight back to Singapore. The flight was scheduled at 2.45am, which is why the trip is until 10.12.2010, when in fact we did nothing on the last day. Haha. I slept throughout the flight this time and reached Singapore at 8am Singapore time. Side note: Realise I miss baby SOOOOO much! Too bad he wasn't able to stay over at all. And also, I am so disgusted that I have to start work tomorrow morning. DAMN SAD. ![]() A handmade calendar for Year 2011. =) Making this calendar was time-consuimg and costly, but will be totally worth it if he is ever going to hang it up on his desk. Friday, December 10, 2010 4th Anniversary Trip Genting + KL (17.12.2010 - 21.12.2010) For our 4th anniversary, we decided to take a small trip to our neighbouring country. Since my mum and sisters were going there as well, we met them for 2 days during our holiday, one in Genting and one in KL. ![]() Since we were there with my mum, and my sisters wanted to have dinner at 阿一鲍鱼, we decided to tag along and have a free meal. Hehe. The abalone was too small but the 佛跳墙 was damn good! Gift exchange at 12am, 18.12.2010. Since the gift he got me was too big to bring it for our trip, he gave me the gift before we left. =) On our anniversary, we went to the temple at Genting to pray, and we saw a heart-shaped cloud! But apparently, out of all the people whom i showed the photo to, I am the only one who can see the heart shape. ![]() We spent the rest of the day idling and went for buffet dinner at "Coffee Terrace". I was most excited over the free flow of salmon sashimi and baby was most excited over the char kuay teow. Overall, the food there was not bad. That's all for our 4th anniversary trip. Nothing much, just a short and relaxing trip to get away from work. =) So glad we had made it to 4 years. It wasn't an easy task for the both of us but we have managed to pull through. Hope that there will be many more years together in the future. |
